LAKE PLACID, NY (March 8, 2025) - USA Bobsled/Skeleton began the first day of World Championship bobsled races, as well as concluded the Skeleton events with the Mixed Team Event, which will be making its Olympic debut at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
Austin Florian and Mystique Ro won gold on home ice in the Mixed Team Skeleton event. Combined with Ro’s silver medal yesterday in the Women’s Skeleton competition, this is the first time since 2012 that Team USA has won two medals in a World Championships. It also marks the first time Team USA has won gold in a Mixed Team event.
“I’m unbelievably stoked,” shared Florian on becoming a World Champion. “The last few days, I’ve had a couple of runs where I zigged where I should have zagged, but I took all of that and had a lot better of a day today. Mystique and I threw down some great runs, pushed the fastest and won gold!”
“It means a lot,” shared Ro about her gold-medal finish. “The home crowd really made an impact. Doing the Mixed Team event is a fun event to begin with, so it’s nice to do on home ice, with a home crowd and home facilities - go Team USA!”
On the bobsled side of things, Kaysha Love sits in first place after the first two runs of Women’s Monobob with a two-run time of 1:58.99. Elana Meyers Taylor sits in fourth with a time of 1:59.26, and Kaillie Humphries Armbruster is in ninth with a time of 1:59.77.
“It feels a little bit surreal,” shared Love about being first after day one on home ice. “I’m going to go out there and trust my abilities, […]” she shared about her plan for tomorrow’s final two heats.
In 2-Man Bobsled, Frankie Del Duca and Charlie Volker currently sit in fourth place at the first two heats with a two-run combined time of 1:50.25. Geoff Gadbois and Bryce Cheek sit in eighth place with their time of 1:51.44. After experiencing a crash in Heat One, Kris Horn and Josh Williamson currently sit in 22nd place with their time of 1:52.63.
“It’s an incredible feeling racing on home ice,” shared Del Duca after his second run about his current top-6 position.
