Sylvia Hoffman is an American multi-sport athlete known for her excitement to try a multitude of sports before making her first Olympic team as a bobsledder. She competed in a variety of sports before bobsled including Olympic weightliftingtrack and fieldbasketball and volleyball.…She loves movies, exploration, social gatherings and hand/eye coordination activities

Early Life

Hoffman, originally from Philadelphia, grew up in Arlington Texas with her father and older brother. From a young age she loved playing sports initially favoring baseball, soccer, and sprinting. When the WNBA formed she began playing basketball at the YMCA. Given a direction for sport, she stuck with it through high school while also playing volleyball and doing track & field along the way. After winning the 5A Texas State Championship, she earned a basketball scholarship to Kilgore College and later transferred to LSU Shreveport, Louisiana (LSUS).

Early Career

After finishing four years of college basketball, she transitioned into Weightlifting while finishing her Bachelors at LSUS. While training along other top ranked athlete, she rose to compete in two international teams within her first two years into the sport, she pursued an opportunity at making the Rio Games. Coming up short, following an injury, Hoffman battled back to compete once more for Team USA Weightlifting in 2017 Tepei before being discovered in 2018 by USA Bobsled at Scouting Camp: The Next Olympic Hopeful... Hoffman had a huge first year in her new sport by making the World Cup team competing in the World Championship Team Competition in 2019. She spent four years collecting National Championship titles and helping her pilots drive them to win World Cup medals for the US women's bobsled program. In 2022 Hoffman finally made her Olympic debut. She continued to dominate in her third main sport by setting a start record in Beijing alongside her pilot Elana Meyers Taylor pushing them into winning an Olympic Bronze medal in the 2-woman event.
