TEAM USA CONCLUDES WEEK ONE OF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS ON A HIGH NOTE

WINTERBERG, GERMANY (February 25, 2024) - Week One of the IBSF World Championships came to an eventful conclusion today with heats three and four of Women’s Monobob and 2-Man Bobsled.


In Women’s Monobob, Elana Meyers Taylor won silver today with her four-run time of 3:54.95.


“This was a crazy race,” Meyers Taylor shared. “It was super exciting from start to finish and after taking a year off, it really was a team effort; everyone from the coaches and staff to teammates to my nanny, to Nic has been incredible during this process. I feel great right now and am super proud of how we as a team were able to put it all together”.


Also in Monobob, Kaysha Love and Sylvia Hoffman placed sixth and seventh, with combined times of 3:55.36 and 3:55.53, respectively.

After heats one and two, Meyers Taylor was in second, Love was in fifth and Hoffman was in eighth with respective times of 1:57.33, 1:57.49, and 1:57.76.


In 2-Man, Frank Del Duca and Manteo Mitchell concluded heats one and two yesterday in fifth place with a time of 1:50.06. Today, the duo maintained their rank and finished fifth overall with a combined time of 3:40.24.

Also in 2-Man, Kris Horn and Hakeem Abdul-Saboor were in 14th after the first two heats with their time of 1:51.03. Today, they stayed in 14th, ending with a time of 3:41.94.


“Our athletes did exceptional this week. They had strong starts across the board, our pilots drove well, and our equipment is running great. We will carry this momentum into next week and continue to get better,” shared Chris Fogt, USA Bobsled/Skeleton coach.


Adding to the action, yesterday on the 24th, a special Skeleton Mixed Team event was held using reaction starts. Mystique Ro and Austin Florian competed, placing fifth with their combined two-run time of 1:59.55 (Ro 1:00.70 and Florian 58.85).

The IBSF World Championships will continue with Week Two starting March 1. The races will consist of four heats for both 2-Woman and 4-Man Bobsled.
