USA Bobsled/Skeleton digital combine officially launches on GMTM.com today

Lake Placid, N.Y. (May 3, 2021) – USA Bobsled/Skeleton (USABS) and GMTM.com officially launched the online combine today. Redefining the future of talent identification for the sports of bobsled and skeleton, GMTM.com offers athletes the opportunity to get in front of national team coaches from anywhere in the country.

Potential sliders can upload videos that showcase their athletic talent in a 40-yard dash and broad jump, and gives athletes the chance to show who they are by uploading an interview and sport highlights.

USABS went digital last spring when staff was unable to travel and host in-person combine events due to the pandemic. The coaches were already thinking about ways to be more efficient and to expand their reach to get more athletes involved in the sports, and the partnership with GMTM.com was an opportunity to increase exposure and engage athletes across multi-sport arenas. 

The impact was noticeable; dozens of athletes were invited to participate last season. Historically, USABS medalists have been identified from a variety of sports such as track and field, softball, football, volleyball, swimming, lacrosse and field hockey. Skills learned while competing in various sports, combined with a dedication to be a team player, can easily transition athletes to the ice. 

“Last year, COVID-19 forced us to rethink how we identify talent in the sports of bobsled and skeleton,” said Aron McGuire, USABS Chief Executive Officer. “We were extremely pleased with the success of the GMTM digital combine and the number of athletes who are now involved in the sliding sports. We are excited to start reviewing video on the next group of athletes as we head into an important season.”
