USA Bobsled Push Championships kick off the competitive season in Lake Placid this Friday and Saturday

Lake Placid, N.Y. (July 27, 2021) – The 2021 USA Bobsled Push Championships, presented by Mananalu Water, will take place in the new state-of-the-art Ice House facility in Lake Placid, N.Y. this Friday and Saturday. Competing in push championships is one of the qualifying steps for bobsled athletes to earn a coveted spot on the 2021-2022 USA Bobsled National Team.

“We are so excited to kick off the 2022 Olympic season in the new iced facility, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support from New York State and the Olympic Regional Development Authority to make this dream a reality,” said USA Bobsled Head Coach Mike Kohn. “Push championships offers our athletes the opportunity to showcase their abilities, and we’re looking forward to seeing who rises to the top going into the Olympic year.”

Friday will feature the men’s drivers and the women’s push athletes. The lowest combined time from the best two heats of each discipline will determine the winners. All times listed below are in EST.

Friday, July 30

10:30 a.m.: Men’s driver’s push competition

• Heat 1: Driver’s bar (mandatory)

• Heat 2: Driver’s bar (mandatory)

• Heat 3: Drive’s bar (optional)

11:15 a.m.: Women’s push athlete competition

• Heat 1: Brake push (mandatory)

• Heat 2: Brake push (mandatory)

• Heat 3: Brake push (optional)

Women’s drivers and men’s push athletes will compete on Saturday. The lowest combined time from the best driver’s push bar and best monobob push for each athlete will determine the winner in the women’s drivers contest. The men’s push athlete winner will be the athlete with the lowest combined time from the brakes and one side. 

Saturday, July 31

10:30 a.m.: Women’s driver’s push competition

• Heat 1: Driver’s bar on frame sled (mandatory)

• Heat 2: Driver’s bar on frame sled (optional)

• Heat 3: Monobob push (mandatory)

• Heat 4: Monobob push (optional)

11:15 a.m.: Men’s push athlete competition

• Heat 1: Brake push (mandatory)

• Heat 2: Side push, left or right (mandatory)

• Heat 3: Brakes, left, or right (optional)

Bobsled athletes will return to Lake Placid to compete in a combination push competition from September 4-5, when different combinations of athletes will push together for time. USA Skeleton Push Championships are scheduled for September 29-30.
