USA Bobsled/Skeleton Brings Ice to the Sunshine State!
by Abby Slenker
ORLANDO, FL (April 1, 2025) – USA Bobsled/Skeleton is thrilled to announce the groundbreaking development of a fully enclosed bobsled and skeleton track in Orlando, Florida. This pioneering project will be the first of its kind in the region, designed to operate year-round amidst rising global temperatures due to climate change.
A shocking number of USA Bobsled/Skeleton athletes hail from the South, far from traditional winter training grounds. This facility brings the ice to them, eliminating the need for extensive travel while expanding accessibility to the sport. Additionally, with Orlando already a premier tourist destination, visitors flocking to the area for theme parks and attractions will now have the unique opportunity to experience the thrill of a bobsled ride like never before.
The new facility will leverage cutting-edge technology to maintain optimal ice conditions regardless of the external climate. This initiative not only represents a significant advancement in the sport's infrastructure but also demonstrates a proactive approach to the challenges posed by a warming planet.
Aron McGuire, CEO of USA Bobsled/Skeleton, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This enclosed track is a game-changer for our athletes and the sport as a whole. By integrating state-of-the-art climate control technologies, we are ensuring that our athletes can train under consistent and optimal conditions all year round. This facility will serve as a model for how we can continue to push the boundaries of bobsled and skeleton while being mindful of our environmental impact."
The track's design includes advanced refrigeration and insulation systems that will create a stable and sustainable environment for the ice track, allowing athletes to train in a facility that mirrors the conditions of top international competition venues.
This ambitious project is expected to not only enhance training opportunities for current and future athletes but also attract international events and competitions to Florida, boosting local tourism and economic activity.
Construction of the track is scheduled to begin later this year, with completion aimed for the end of 2029. For more information on this initiative, head to www.USABS.com/aprilfools.
