WINTERBERG, Germany (December 12, 2021) – Kaillie Humphries (Carlsbad, Calif.) teamed with Sylvia Hoffman (Arlington, Texas) to finish fifth in this morning’s two-woman bobsled World Cup race in Winterberg, followed closely behind by teammates Elana Meyers Taylor (Douglasville, Ga.) and Kaysha Love (Heriman, Utah) in sixth.

“I’m frustrated to say the least, but it was better than yesterday,” Humphries said. She finished 13th in yesterday’s women’s monobob race, just a week after sweeping the Altenberg, Germany races. 

 

“We tried something brand new yesterday and it did not pay off, but we had a 50/50 chance and we need to test things in preparation for China,” Humphries said. “I just have to work on consistency and continue to get better. This track is not my favorite, but we will keep moving forward.”

Humphries and Hoffman had the third and fourth fastest start times of 5.51 and 5.55 seconds today. Humphries threaded together the third best downtime of 57.04 seconds in the first heat. There weren’t any major complications during the second run, but the Americans fell back two spots with a second run of 57.34 seconds. Humphries and Hoffman finished fifth in the Omaze branded sled with a combined time of 1:54.38. 

Love made her third World Cup appearance today. She helped Meyers Taylor power the Kampgrounds of America branded sled off the block in 5.49 seconds in both heats, which was the second fastest time of the first heat and the fastest start time of the final heat. Meyers Taylor na

vigated the team to the finish in 57.17 and 57.29 seconds for a combined time of 1:54.46 to finish sixth. 

The Germans swept the podium. Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi took gold with a two-run total of 1:53.77. Mariama Jamanka and Alexandra Burghardt were 0.07 seconds off their teammates to claim the silver medal. Kim Kalicki and Leonie Fiebig completed the German sweep of the medals by earning bronze with a total time of 1:54.13.
